- ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪I was admitted to Mount Auburn Hospital in a Glasgow Level 5 coma having suffered an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Fortunately, a boy scout troop had walked into my condo lobby minutes after my cardiac arrest in the condo elevator. They took over from my valiant neighbour who was sustaining me with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and started giving very aggressive CPR. The EMT's noted the absence of pulse and a lack of pupillary response then stated 'we do not take dead people to the hospital'; however, they were able to restore a heart beat on the second AED shock and they took me to Mt. Auburn. Mt. Auburn Hospital was able to get permission from next-of-kin to attempt to save me, and then did everything in their power to bring me back. They cooled my body (I was in a deep coma already) and placed a wire in my heart. Dr. Cowley was outstanding throughout my time in Medical Intensive Care. My brother and sister wrote letters to her thanking her for her unwavering level of care. Needless to say, against the odds, five days later, I started to emerge from the coma, only a little worse for wear. Thank you Dr. Cowley.
